And Mattel, 36, was amazed that the comedian felt her emotions so deeply, noting she was “actually refreshed” by Hoffman’s reaction.
“You entered the room like your whole family was murdered,” the drag performer said. “You sat on the couch and you were kind of in shock, but you felt like you were in shock that you were actually upset about not winning. You’d said to me, ‘I don’t think I cared and now I lost and I’m mad.’”
Despite her loss, Hoffman—who’d previously won a Daytime Emmy in 2019 as a writer for the Odd Squad—was happy for her Hacks costar Nicholson.
“Julianne Nicholson, who beyond deserves it, won, and if not for me, her for Hacks. She was amazing,” Hoffman said. “She was the best, too.”
