The film is set for release March 3 2028 with “Heartstopper” breakout Kit Connor, who was already rumored as reuniting with Garland following “Warfare”), now confirmed.

Connor will be joined by Ben Whishaw (“Black Doves,” “This is Going to Hurt”), Cailee Spaeny (“Alien: Romulus,””Civil War,” also from Garland), Tom Burke (“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” “Black Bag”) and Havana Rose Liu (“Tuner,” “Bottoms”). Other key casting additions include Sonoya Mizuno (“Ex Machina” and another former Garland collaborator), Jonathan Pryce (“The Two Popes,” “The Crown”), Ruby Cruz (“Bottoms,” “The Threesome”), Nick Offerman (“The Last of Us,” “Margo’s Got Money Troubles”), John Hodgkinson (“Dear England,” “Napoleon”), Jefferson Hall (“House of the Dragon,” “Oppenheimer”), Emma Laird (“28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” “A Haunting in Venice”) and Peter Serafinowicz (“Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”).

Peter Rice is set to produce the film alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, as well as George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.

One of the most critically-acclaimed video games ever made, the dark fantasy-action RPG debuted in 2022 and was developed under the direction of FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, based on a mythological story by Martin. It has since sold in excess of 30 million copies worldwide and received over 400 Game of the Year awards.

Garland is understood to have been a longtime fan of the game, and made a personal pitch to its publishers Bandai Namco and FromSoftware to bring it to screen.
