Will Ferrell Is a Golfer in Netflix Comedy Series

Netflix and the PGA have released the trailer for “The Hawk,” a new comedy series starring Will Ferrell as a has-been golf pro mounting a career comeback.

The official logline for “The Hawk” reads, “Lonnie Hawkins, 2004’s No. 1 golfer, struggles on the back nine of his career to recapture his magic. His body says retire, but his heart says he’s not done yet. His ex-wife and his son Lance, golf’s new golden boy, know he’s through. But with one more major to win to complete golf’s Grand Slam, Lonnie refuses to believe he’s anything other than one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golf history.”

Other cast members include Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver and David Hornsby.

Set to the tune of an ‘80s glam-rock theme song, the trailer shows Ferrell as Lonnie Hawkins in a golf match against his rising star son, played by Tatro. Before teeing off, Lonnie tells the ravenous crowd, “Now, I know it’s etiquette to be quiet out of respect, but what do you say today we make some fucking noise?” The onlookers go wild and chant “balls deep” as Lonnie launches one down the fairway.

The PGA Tour serves as producer. Executive producers include Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue are executive producers for T-Street. Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green and Andrew Guest also serve as executive producers.

“The Hawk” hits Netflix on July 16. Check out the trailer below.
