Christopher Nolan fans can now bring the filmmaker’s latest epic home — no 70mm projector required.
Nolan’s complete script for the blockbuster mythological adventure is listed on Amazon, where it’s already a No. 1 bestseller. Published by Faber & Faber, the 240-page paperback will officially release on Aug. 4 and is currently available for preorder.
The Odyssey: The Official Screenplay
The book offers readers a closer look at how Nolan adapted Homer’s foundational Greek poem for the screen, including the film’s dialogue and scene descriptions.
“The Odyssey” stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, and chronicles his perilous voyage home after the Trojan War. Damon leads the sprawling ensemble of Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo.
The film has ignited the box office since its release, collecting $124.5 million domestically and $264.1 million worldwide over the weekend. Written and directed by Nolan, it’s also one of the best-reviewed films of the year, with an “A” grade on CinemaScore exit polls and 95% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
Interest in the movie has also extended well beyond the box office. Sales of Homer’s “The Odyssey” across its numerous translations and editions have reportedly risen 76% year to date, while audiobook listening surged around the film’s debut. The screenplay, already a No. 1 bestseller on Amazon, follows the trend.
The release continues a tradition of publishing Nolan’s scripts alongside his movies. Screenplay editions have previously been issued for “Oppenheimer,” “Tenet,” “Interstellar,” “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Trilogy.”
