Jay-Z has announced himself as the headline act at the Super Bowl LXI half-time show in Los Angeles.
The rapper’s Roc Nation entertainment company has been in partnership with the NFL to produce the Super Bowl half-time show since 2019 – seven years on, it is his turn.
The Super Bowl heads to SoFi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, on Sunday February 14, live on Sky Sports NFL.
“From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey,” stated Jay-Z. “Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.”
This year has marked a celebration of “JAY-Z 30” three decades on from his debut album Reasonable Doubt, resulting in attendance records at sold-out concerts at Yankee Stadium as well as in London, Paris and Los Angeles.
The 25-time Grammy Award winner, whose 89 nominations are second only in history to his wife Beyonce, is the first hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
“For several years, we’ve had the privilege of working closely with JAŸ-Z and Roc Nation, and I’ve seen the extraordinary impact he has had on the Super Bowl half-time Show,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
“When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that JAŸ-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him. I couldn’t be more excited for fans around the world to experience the artistry, creativity and cultural impact he will bring to the Super Bowl stage.”
Last year’s Super Bowl saw Bad Bunny make history as the first ever Latino solo artist to headline the half-time show as he performed at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
The year before saw Kendrick Lamar’s performance in New Orleans become the most watched Super Bowl half-time show in history.
