Sosie Bacon is set for a lead role in the upcoming MGM+ series “The Black Tapes,” Variety has learned.
Bacon will star in the series alongside previously announced cast member Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. As previously reported, the show is based on the hit horror podcast of the same name and will begin production on its eight-episode first season in January in Vancouver.
The official logline states, “Dr. Richard Strand (Coster-Waldau), a brilliant psychiatrist with a mysterious past, teams with the obsessed, relentless scientist Alex Regan (Bacon) to debunk paranormal cases of hauntings, possessions, disappearances, and sinister legends – the infamous black tapes. But as Strand and Regan unravel the secrets of these events, they uncover a hidden occult world behind our own and must unravel a centuries-old apocalyptic conspiracy.”
Regan is further described as “a brilliant, methodical physicist who joins the investigation of The Black Tapes as a debunker, but quickly finds her very scientific training means she can’t ignore the mounting evidence that these mysteries involve something beyond the natural world.”
Bacon recently wrapped filming on Season 2 of “Scarpetta” for Amazon and has also starred in shows like “Mare of Easttown,” “Narcos: Mexico,” and “13 Reasons Why.” In film, she has starred in features including “Smile” and “Smile 2” and will next be seen in the horror-comedy “Family Movie,” which is directed by and stars her parents Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon as well as other members of her family.
Bacon is repped by Gersh, Range Media Partners, and Schreck Rose.
Terry Miles and Paul Bae created “The Black Tapes” podcast and will serve as writers and executive producers on the series. Kearie Peak of Peak Pictures and John Rogers and Jennifer Court of Kung Fu Monkey Productions also executive produce. MGM+ Studios will produce.
