Selma Blair has been charged with second-degree assault after being arrested following a violent incident on a Delta flight on Sunday, according to Queens Criminal Court. The actress posted $20,000 in bail, paid by credit card, and was released on Monday.
Following her removal from the plane on Sunday, the “Cruel Intentions” actress was arrested on Monday by a Port Authority police officer after allegedly attacking an officer and a nurse, per TMZ. She then appeared in Queens Criminal Court Monday evening, where she appeared before Judge Indira D. Khan, per court documents viewed by Variety.
Blair was arrested after she allegedly punched one flight attendant and bit another on a Delta plane heading from Los Angeles to New York. Blair also attempted to open the plane door while in the air. Law enforcement was waiting for the 54-year-old “Legally Blonde” actress at John F. Kennedy airport, where police took her into custody and transported her to a hospital for evaluation. Two flight attendants reported injuries, with one receiving treatment at a hospital.
A representative for Blair told Variety: “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.”
In 2016, Blair experienced a previous outburst while on a plane, during which she was removed from a flight on a stretcher while traveling with her then 4-year-old son after she “had a total psychotic blackout,” as she described it. Blair attributed the incident to drinking a glass of wine and taking a pill. “It was horrible and frightening, and I had empathy for myself actually afterward because it was actually so out of character for me, especially because I’m a mother,” she said at the time.
