Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess did not fly to Las Vegas on Sunday before his team’s Super League match against Wigan Warriors as he awaits visa clearance to enter the United States.
Burgess encountered issues obtaining a visa and reportedly travelled to the US embassy in London, external in order to get his application approved in time for the fixture on Saturday, 1 March.
The Wire are still hopeful Burgess will arrive in time for the match at Allegiant Stadium in six days should a visa be granted imminently.
Burgess said following Warrington’s win against Catalans Dragons on Friday he anticipated a decision would not be made in time for him to travel with his squad and backroom team on Sunday.
“It’s been a bit of a process over the past couple of days,” Burgess told BBC Radio Merseyside.
“My visa application is in now for review and it’s been going on for a little while.
“I respect the process and everyone’s efforts to get it to this point, but it’s essentially out of my control so we’ll see what the next 24 hours bring.
“I think I’ll get there. I’m confident I’ll get there. A lot of work has gone into it.”
