“Tommy Karate is the greatest mob story never told,” he shared in a statement to Deadline in March. “I’ve been working on this for over three years, and I’m beyond thrilled that it’s finally in motion.”
The 32-year-old added, “Playing a role like this is a dream job. We have a great team behind this one, and I can’t wait for people to see what we’ve come up with.”
But while he is thrilled to play the mobster, Davidson has previously joked about the difference between a more serious role and his comedy roots.
“Acting is just so embarrassing,” he told Entertainment Tonight last July. “It’s because I’m a stand-up, so, it’s very ridiculous. In order for me to get there and be like ‘Ohhh!’ I can only do that two or three times before I start laughing.”
