Over the years, the 31-year-old actor and comedian has accumulated more than 200 tattoos, but has decided to get rid of almost all of them.
While appearing on Today on Friday morning (January 31), Pete opened up about the incredibly painful process of removing the tattoos and revealed how many he plans on keeping.

As for what inspired him to get his tattoos removed, Pete explained. “I got sober and I saw myself in the mirror and I was like, ‘Nah. Who that?’ I was like, ‘I got to change it up a little bit.’”
Pete also talked about the tattoo removal process while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night (January 30).
“I’ve been burning them off,” Pete said. “They’re almost gone.”
He continued, “It’s horrible. It’s worse [than getting them]. They have to burn off a layer of your skin and then it has to heal for, like, six to eight weeks and you can’t get in the sunlight. And then you’ve gotta do it, like, 12 more times.”
“So yeah, really think about that Game of Thrones tattoo you’re thinking of getting,” Pete joked.
The Saturday Night Live alum said that one point, he had “probably, like, 200.”
“Yeah, I was sad boy,” Pete said. “It was a weird time. Everybody was getting tattoos, like, five years ago. Do you remember that? Post Malone was like, ‘always tired’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, me too dude. I’m exhausted,’” he added, referencing Post‘s under-eye ink.
Pete also said that plans on keeping “maybe, like, two or three” of his tattoos, saying he’s “trying to clean slate it.”
“I’m trying to be an adult,” he added.
In another recent interview, Pete shared how taking a break from Hollywood affected his mental health.
