It’s been more than a year and a half since Netflix last took a trip to “Outer Banks,” but the show’s fifth and final season finally has a premiere date: August 20. As part of the news, Netflix also revealed a teaser trailer and first look images for the show’s return.
“Outer Banks” was renewed for Season 5 way back in November 2024, just ahead of the debut of part two of Season 4 of the series. At the time, series creators and executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke wrote to fans about Season 5, “We hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season 5 will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you’ll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break.”
Season 5 will feature 10 one-hour episodes. The cast includes Chase Stokes (John B.), Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron), Madison Bailey (Kiara), Jonathan Daviss (Pope), Carlacia Grant (Cleo), Drew Starkey (Rafe), Austin North (Topper), Fiona Palomo (Sofia), J. Anthony Crane (Chandler Groff) and Cullen Moss (Shoupe).
Here’s a logline for the show’s long-awaited return: “Season 5 finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats. With Chandler Groff still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks ensuring the Pogues have no home to return to, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo must rely on their scrappy instincts—and an uneasy alliance with Rafe—to keep from falling apart for good. Their mission is now a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally win the freedom they’ve been chasing since the beginning. It’s the Pogues against the world as they seek to avenge their best friend and bring it on home…one final time.”
The series, which premiered in 2017, has been a hit for Netflix.
