‘Made in India’ Team Reunites for Business Family Saga ‘The Tatas’

India’s T-Series Films and Almighty Motion Picture, the team behind hit Amazon MX Player series “Made in India: A Titan Story,” are reuniting for “The Tatas,” a multi-season drama adapting Girish Kuber’s book “The Tatas: How a Family Built a Business and a Nation.”

The companies acquired the audio-visual rights to Kuber’s book in 2022 and are now moving the project into script development.

Kuber’s book won the Gaja Capital Business Book of the Year award. The series will track four generations of the Tata family, beginning with founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, whose ventures included Tata Steel, the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and groundwork for the Indian Institute of Science.

The second chapter centers on Sir Dorabji Tata, Sir Ratan Tata and Lady Meharbai Tata, covering the buildout of Tata Steel, the founding of Tata Hydro-Electric Power and the establishment of the Tata Trusts. The third traces J.R.D. Tata’s decades at the helm, spanning the creation of Tata Airlines, later Air India, the launch of Tata Motors and the 1968 founding of Tata Consultancy Services. The final arc follows Ratan Naval Tata’s expansion of the conglomerate onto the global stage, including the growth of Titan.

Karan Vyas, who wrote “Made in India: A Titan Story,” is attached to adapt Kuber’s book.

“Some families build businesses. Some build institutions. The Tata family helped build the very idea of modern India,” Bhushan Kumar, T-Series Films, said.

Vyas added: “The deeper I went into the archives of the Tata family, the more I realized that this isn’t merely corporate history; it’s the foundational narrative of modern India. These were individuals who constantly looked past their balance sheets to build institutions that served the collective.”

Prabhleen Sandhu, co-founder of Almighty Motion Picture, said: “This is not just the story of a family or a business empire – it is the story of ideas, values and institutions that helped shape modern India.”

“The Tatas” is in active script development, with director and casting attachments expected later this year. A platform has not been finalized yet.
