Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell sustained a neck injury and was taken to a local hospital after being injured during the fourth quarter of his team’s 19-15 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
“Thoughts and prayers are with Jack and his family,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said after the game. “He’s being taken care of. We don’t have any new information. We’ll keep you updated as this thing goes. But we are thinking about him. We are thinking about him.”
Jack Campbell, a first-team All-Pro last season, was injured while tackling Vikings tight end TJ Hockenson in the fourth quarter.
The 26-year-old lay motionless facing the ground and was surrounded by medical personnel for nine minutes while being strapped to a board. He did not signal to the Ford Field crowd as he was driven off on a cart toward the tunnel.
“He’s breathing, he’s alert when he left,” Dan Campbell told the Lions Radio Network.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff was shaken up while observing the situation.
“Jack’s deal was definitely scary,” Goff said. “It just brings you back to reality for a moment that he’s a husband and a father. Scary. We’re praying for him and hope he’s going to be alright. If anyone is tough enough to get through something like that, it’s going to be him.”
Campbell, a fourth-year pro, was credited with three tackles prior to the injury. He has 57 this season after a career-high 176 last season. The Lions picked him in the first round of the 2023 draft.
