Katey Sagal is the latest addition to the untitled Apple TV comedy from Liz Heldens and Matt Ward, Variety has learned exclusively.
Sagal will appear alongside previously announced lead Elizabeth Banks as well as fellow cast members Ted Danson and Rob Delaney.
The logline for the show states, “Fresh off a messy divorce, Heidi (Banks) sets out to secure a lively second act for herself and her kids. But when she stumbles into coordinating her father’s (Danson) retirement community sexcapades, Heidi is forced into an unlikely alliance with his girlfriend’s perpetually single son.”
Sagal will play Mavis, described as Heidi’s dad’s new girlfriend.
Sagal recently appeared in Season 2 of the Netflix live-action version of “One Piece” as Dr. Kureha. Other recent roles include “The Conners,” “Rebel,” “The Abandons,” “Shameless,” and “Superior Donuts.” She is also known for her Golden Globe-winning role in the FX series “Sons of Anarchy” as well as her roles in the hit shows “Futurama” and “Married…With Children.” In film, she is known for starring in features like Trust,” “Bleed for This,” “Pitch Perfect 2” and “The Good Mother.”
She is repped by CAA and B&B Management.
Heldens and Ward serve as writers, executive producers, and showrunners on the series. Banks executive produces along with Max Handelman and Krissy Wall via Brownstone Productions. Jonathan Krisel will direct the pilot and executive produce. Quinn Haberman executive produces alongside Heldens for Selfish Mermaid, while Jason Winer and Jon Radler will executive produce for Small Dog Picture Company. 20th Television, where Heldens is under an overall deal, is the studio.
