The New York Times was granted a win in court on Tuesday (March 4) amid the outlet’s legal battle with Justin Baldoni.
If you were unaware, the 41-year-old It Ends With Us actor and director sued the NYT for $250 million on New Year’s Eve. He accused the outlet of working with Blake Lively on an article about her alleged experience on set.
He also filed a $400 million defamation suit against Blake and Ryan Reynolds, which was amended to include the NYT in February. The outlet alleged that Justin‘s arguments were “bogus” and is attempting to be removed from the lawsuit.
As a judge contemplates that decision, they were granted a pause on the discovery process.

“The Wayfarer Parties are unlikely to be unfairly prejudiced by a stay while the Court decides the pending motion,” a judge wrote about the decision in court documents obtained by Deadline.
They continued, writing, “The NY Times did not delay filing its motion; it filed the motion within 21 days of being served. The Court intends to address the motion to dismiss promptly after it is fully submitted. To the extent that the Wayfarer Parties are concerned about delay, they have it within their power to accelerate their contemplated further amended complaint or their opposition to the motion to dismiss. The Wayfarer Parties themselves suggest that discovery from the NY Times is unlikely to be voluminous.”
A representative for the outlet issued the following statement to the outlet: “We appreciate the court’s decision today, which recognizes the important First Amendment values at stake here. The court has stopped Mr. Baldoni from burdening The Times with discovery requests in a case that should never have been brought.”
One of Blake and Justin‘s costars recently weighed in on the lawsuits.
