John Rhys-Davies Fantasy ‘Starbright’ Boards Cappu Films Before Busan

International sales on “Starbright,” Francesco Lucente’s English-language fantasy adventure starring John Rhys-Davies, Diego Boneta and Alexandra Dowling, have gone to Cappu Films, which sealed the deal on the eve of the Busan International Film Festival‘s Asian Contents & Film Market.

Dowling plays Aisling, a young woman who makes a wish on a shooting star and finds herself hunted by people who want its power for themselves. Rhys-Davies is the archangel Raphael, who hides the star’s light inside her heart, and Boneta is Joshua, a stranger with a difficult history who goes on the run with her. Ted Levine, Becky Ann Baker, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Elisabeth Röhm and Christine Ebersole round out the ensemble.

Ludek Drizhal composed the film’s score, which is in contention for the Public Choice Award at this year’s World Soundtrack Awards.

“We’re delighted to have closed the deal for ‘Starbright’ just ahead of Busan,” said Janice Woo of Cappu Films. “We’re keen to bring more English-language fantasy, action and adventure titles to our catalog, building on our experience with genre films. We really admire what Francesco has created, particularly the music and the emotion it brings to the film. We look forward to introducing ‘Starbright’ to our international buyers.”

Lucente, who also produced, said he was excited to partner with Cappu to take the film to audiences worldwide. “This film has always been very close to my heart – it’s a story about hope, courage, love, and the belief that even in our darkest moments, something extraordinary can still happen. Cappu’s passion for the film and their strong international reach make them the perfect partner to introduce ‘Starbright’ to new audiences, and I’m thrilled to begin this next chapter of the film’s journey with them.”

Elsewhere on the Cappu slate are “Fox Hunt,” toplined by Tony Leung Chiu-wai, and “Operation Doolittle,” a nine-episode espionage drama set during World War II. The company also handles Erica Xia-Hou’s “Banr,” which played Slamdance; Shan Jiang’s “Ephemera,” a Tribeca title; Stas Mareev’s science-fiction actioner “Overstake”; and “Her Last Laugh,” an Australian comedy-drama from Joy Hopwood.
