Jimmi Simpson Joins Elisabeth Moss in Hulu Drama ‘Conviction’

Jimmi Simpson has joined the upcoming Hulu drama series “Conviction,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Simpson will star alongside previously announced lead Elisabeth Moss and fellow cast members Sebastian De Souza and Adam Godley. The show is based on the Jack Jordan novel of the same name and was greenlit at the streamer in February.

The logline for “Conviction” states, “Criminal Defense Attorney Neve Harper (Moss), a confident lawyer, finally has her shot at a career-making case: a high-profile murder where the husband is accused of killing his wife by setting their home on fire. But when a mysterious stranger begins blackmailing Neve, she is forced to compromise every legal, moral, and ethical obligation to gain an acquittal – or else risk her dark secrets being exposed.”

Exact details on Simpson’s character are being kept under wraps.

Simpson previously starred in the HBO series “Westworld,” for which he earned an Emmy nomination for outstanding guest actor in a drama in 2018. He also appeared in the critically-acclaimed “USS Callister” episode of “Black Mirror,” with Simpson reprising his role in the recent followup episode “USS Callister: Into Infinity.” His other TV credits include “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “House of Cards,” and “Pachinko,” while his film credits include “Breaking News in Yuba County,” “Audrey’s Children,” and “Zodiac.”

He is repped by Cognitive Artists, CAA, attorney Bruce Gellman, and Gingham PR.

David Shore is adapting “Conviction” for the small screen and will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. Moss is also executive producing under her Love & Squalor Pictures banner in addition to starring. Warren Littlefield, who worked with Moss and Hulu on both “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “The Testaments,” will executive produce for The Littlefield Co.

Shore is executive producing under his Shore Z Productions banner along with Erin Gunn. Jordan is also an executive producer, as are Ann Johnson and Lisa Harrison of The Littlefield Co. Bert Salke executive produces via Co-Lab21 along with Lindsey McManus of Love & Squalor. 20th Television is the studio. Both Shore and Littlefield are currently under overall deals with 20th TV, while Jordan has a multi-year development deal there as well.
