Jane Fonda Liked Barbra Streisand’s Robert Redford Oscars 2026 Tribute

“Many years later, we were chatting on the phone about the usual, politics, art, Modigliani—our favorite,” the 84-year-old said. “And as we were hanging up, he said, ‘Babs, I love you dearly, and I always will.’”

Still, that phone called stayed with Barbra and played a role in the final note she wrote to Robert: “I ended it with, ‘I love you too,’ and I signed it ‘Babs.’”

Following the Oscars—which also featured special tributes to the late Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner as well as Catherine O’Hara and Diane Keaton during its In Memoriam—Fonda had seemingly expressed dismay at not being asked to honor Redford. As she put it to Entertainment Tonight at the time, “I wanna know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford?”

“She only made one movie with him,” Fonda—who costarred with Redford in The Chase (1966), Barefoot in the Park (1967), The Electric Horseman (1979) and Our Souls at Night (2017)—continued. “I made four. I have more to say.”
