Shane Lowry sealed a first individual tournament victory since 2022 as he collected a second Irish Open title with an 11-shot win at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg.
The 39-year-old Irishman’s first career title came in the 2009 tournament when still an amateur, and he now joins 2025 winner Rory McIlroy – whom he won the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside – as a two-time champion.
It sealed an eighth career title and seventh individual for the man from Clara in County Offaly, all under the watchful gaze of visiting US president Donald Trump.
Lowry had been in sparkling form all weekend, shooting a course-record 62 on Friday, and then delivered an impressive putting display on Saturday to build a four-shot lead over Denmark’s Jacob Skov Olesen going into Sunday’s final round.
While it required a play-off in 2009 to see off Robert Rock, this victory was emphatic as he picked up where he left off over the first three rounds with a 63 that included eight birdies and just one dropped shot.
