Eric Dane was searching for answers before receiving his ALS diagnosis.
In the Grey’s Anatomy alum’s new autobiography My Bood of Days: A Memoir of Moments, he shared he initially received a separate diagnosis before amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
As Dane recalled, his health battle began when he realized he was “gradually losing any use” of his right hand.
“First, I saw a hand specialist, who passed me off to another hand specialist,” Dane recalled in an excerpt from his book, per US Weekly, “who sent me to a neurologist.”
Once he saw the neurologist, his doctor posited that the Euphoria actor had “contracted some form of neuropathy” but could not determine what he was suffering from, admitting the ailment was “above his pay grade.”
“I shuttled from doctor to doctor and underwent a battery of tests, including one called an EMG, an electromyography test,” Dane recalled, noting his medical team finally confirmed a “diagnostic consensus” of multifocal motor neuropathy.
The initial diagnosis was hopeful, Dane noted, sharing that while it was a “rare autoimmune disorder causing extreme muscle weakness,” the known treatments were “90 percent effective.”
