David Harbour Thinks Eleven Died in Stranger Things Finale

Friends don’t lie—not even to protect fans’ feelings.

And David Harbour did not hold back when sharing his POV on what happened to Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven in the series finale of Stranger Things.

“Do I think Eleven’s alive?” he told USA Today at the Gotham TV Awards June 1, before adding in a whisper, “I think she’s dead. I’m sorry! I’m sorry, I know.”

Indeed, David—who portrayed Jim Hopper in the beloved series—isn’t the only one from the Stranger Things universe who has an opinion on how to interpret the open-endedness of Eleven’s fate. In the finale, which dropped on Netflix Dec. 31, while it seems like she sacrifices herself to destroy the Upside Down for good, it’s possible not everything is as it seems.

It’s Mike (Finn Wolfhard) who proposes an alternative reality in the episode’s final moments.

Pointing out that Eleven shouldn’t have been able to use her abilities under the influence of the military’s technology, Mike instead tells his friends a story that alleges the vision of Eleven in the rift was just that—a vision, and instead the teen was able to escape and has found peace at last living a life off the grid somewhere.
