SPOILER ALERT: This post contains spoilers from the fifth episode of “Dutton Ranch,” “Peaceful Find Peace,” which is now streaming on Paramount+.
After last week’s dreary, cattle-slaughterin’ episode, it’s nice to have a soft reboot of the show, as Rip (Cole Hauser) offers to get the 10 Petal Ranch into shape for Beulah (Annette Bening). It’s a great way to get all of these players tied together. Let’s dive into this week’s drama.
- Oh hell yeah, George Jones on the radio. Great start!
- What plan is Rip going to concoct with Beulah?
- Love Beulah flirting with Rip!
- Ok, it’s interesting how the show has finally revealed its actual plot five episodes in. The first four seem to be a bit of a prologue, in retrospect…
- Rip sizing everybody up sure is intimidating. “Get your asses in the saddle” … yes, sir!
- Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Zachariah (Marc Menchaca) are having one of my favorite “Yellowstone” universe conversations, where it sounds really profound and Western, but I also don’t understand what they’re talking about. But it sounds nice as they stare into the distance!
- What computer project is Beth up to? I feel like they’re dropping breadcrumbs, but I don’t follow…
- Oh, we’re back to creepy Dwight (Ray McKinnon) and his weird animal setup.
- Why did Carter (Finn Little) take Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) on a date to Dwight’s exotic animal freakshow?
- Uh-oh, Rip asking Austin (Sterlin English) about the disappearance of Wes (Nakoa DeCoite) and his family is going to cause some major friction.
- Love Rip firing Chet (Hart Denton) in front of everyone. Bye-bye, loser!
- I have no love for Chet, but it is pretty incredible that he left the bunkhouse with a classic “Fuck all y’all.” Everyone has been tempted at one point in their life to drop one of those bombs on their coworkers.
- Whoa, what was Dwight actually up to to earn the sheriff raid?
- RIP to a real weirdo. But the police are definitely acting with too much force!
- I’d eat some of that 18-hour brisket, too! Damn!
- I love Beulah’s fancy golf cart.
- Wow, Chet is playing with fire by threatening the Jackson family. You know they could easily kill you, too, right?
- Not to give other families parenting advice, but do Rip or Beth ever text Carter to see where he’s at? I don’t think they need to be helicopter parents to confirm that he’s, say, not in jail…
- Interesting how Rip sees so much of Beth in Beulah…
- $11,000 a month seems kind of modest for all of the work Rip has to do, right?
- Interesting conversation between Beth and Beulah. A lot more mutual respect than I expected!
- Ah, this was Beth’s computer plan. Interesting.
- Beth has so much business confidence. I guess she has a good deal, but also maybe she doesn’t? Who knows?
- “Beth works for me now.” Damn, Beulah’s not mincing words…
- Well, Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) is sure going to fuck shit up.
Until next week, cowpokes!
