Will lightning strike a fourth time for Colleen Hoover?
Amazon MGM has released the trailer for “Verity,” a twisty thriller adapted from Hoover’s 2018 novel of the same name. The film hits theaters on Oct. 2.
“Verity” stars Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling novelist hired to finish the latest book from best-selling author Verity Crawford, played by Anne Hathaway, after an accident leaves her unable to complete it. As Lowen works to complete the project, she discovers a disturbing manuscript that raises questions about Verity’s mental stability and the links to her publications. Other cast members include Josh Hartnett, Brady Wagner, Asel Swango and Daniel Echevarria.
The trailer opens with Lowen slinking around the Crawfords’ house in a silk robe while Verity is fast asleep. Lowen joins Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Hartnett), in the living room, and the two lock lips. But when Lowen pulls away, Verity is in Jeremy’s place.
Amazon MGM is rolling out a full theatrical slate for the first time in 2026. After missing the mark with films like “Mercy” and “Crime 101,” the studio got a much-needed box office win with “Project Hail Mary,” which has grossed $600 million worldwide so far. “Verity” is likely to pay out as well, given Hoover’s seemingly bulletproof box office track record. The popular author has been on a hot streak with 2024’s “It Ends With Us,” 2025’s “Regretting You” and this year’s “Reminders of Him,” all of which turned a theatrical profit while underscoring the demand for female-focused stories.
Before “Verity” hits theaters in October, Amazon MGM will release “The Sheep Detectives,” the Nicholas Galitzine-led “Masters of the Universe” and “How to Rob a Bank” from “John Wick” director David Leitch.
