Fans didn’t foresee Amanda Seyfried’s split from Thomas Sadoski—it’s not like they have ESPN or something.
But really, it’s because the Mean Girls alum and The Newsroom actor had been keeping their breakup private.
“We have been separated for a while, and it’s proven to be the right move for us and our family unit,” Seyfried and Sadoski, who share 9-year-old daughter Nina and 5-year-old son Thomas Jr., said in a joint statement to People Sept. 15. “We’ve got each other forever—and it’s GOOD.”
So while they won’t be writing about each other in a burn book, perhaps it shouldn’t surprise followers that the news didn’t spread beyond Seyfried and Sadoski’s inner clique. After all, the former couple, who were last photographed together in January, didn’t feel the need to invite the public to sit with them throughout every stage of their nine-year marriage.
But actually, Seyfried and Sadoski’s story together began on the stage when they both starred in the 2015 off-Broadway production of The Way We Get By. However, they were strictly friends as they were both in other relationships at the time: Seyfried was dating fellow actor Justin Long and Sadoski was married to casting director Kimberly Hope.
He “never flirted, never disrespected his wife,” the Mamma Mia! star told NET-A-PORTER’s PORTER magazine in 2018. “That was another reason why I thought, later on, that I could marry him.”
