Alexander Zverev may have served up some drama.
After the German tennis pro gave his rival Ben Shelton’s girlfriend Trinity Rodman a shoutout during his winner’s speech at the US Open Men’s Championship Sept. 13, fans had mixed feelings about the acknowledgment.
“Trinity, I thought you had a game today, no?” Zverev said following his four-set victory over Shelton. “Well done to you as well. You’re the lucky charm. Not today, but usually.”
But Rodman, who plays for the Washington Spirit in the National Woman’s Soccer League, seemed to be a good sport about the jab.
The 24-year-old could be seen laughing in response to Zverev’s comments in a video shared to ESPN’s TikTok account before nodding her head to agree that she wasn’t feeling particularly lucky that day. After all, her Washington Spirits also lost 3-0 to the Boston Legacy FC hours earlier. (And yes, she traveled all the way from D.C. to New York City after her game to catch the end of Shelton’s match.)
