Selma Blair, Viola Davis and More Pay Tribute to Hayden Panettiere After Her Death
Medical examiners have completed their investigation into Hayden Panettiere‘s death.
Over one month after the Nashville star was found unresponsive at a South Carolina home, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office ruled that she died as a result of drugs in her system at age 36 on Aug. 16.
“The cause of death has been ruled as toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine,” read a release from the Greenville County Coroner’s Office shared with E! News on Sept. 22. “The manner of death has been ruled accident.”
It also noted, “At autopsy no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death.”
Prior to her death, Panettiere was open about her struggles with addiction, including how it was exacerbated when she experienced postpartum depression following the 2014 birth of her and ex Wladimir Klitschko‘s daughter Kaya.
She detailed her issues with opioids and alcohol in her 2026 memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning, writing that a doctor had warned her, “If I didn’t stop drinking, I’d be dead in five years.”
