Netflix has begun production on “The Facade of Love,” a new Korean drama series starring Lee Dong-wook, Jeon So-nee, Jung Yu-mi, and Lee Jong-won, directed by Mo Wan-il and written by Ha Su-jin.
Mo directed “The World of the Married,” the highest-rated drama in Korean cable television history, as well as the thriller “The Frog.” Ha previously wrote the historical romantic comedy “The Matchmakers” and the supernatural comedy “Sell Your Haunted House.”
The series centers on Ji-hun and Hu-kyung, two strangers who share a charged connection while abroad. When both return to Korea, the impact of that encounter ripples outward, drawing Ji-hun’s wife and her younger brother into an increasingly entangled emotional situation.
Lee Dong-wook, whose credits include “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God” and “Hell Is Other People,” leads as Ji-hun. Jeon So-nee – seen recently in “Parasyte: The Grey” and “As You Stood By” – plays Hu-kyung. Jung Yu-mi, known for “Train to Busan” and “Kim Ji-young, Born 1982,” takes the role of Sun-hee, Ji-hun’s wife. Lee Jong-won, who appeared in “Knight Flower” and “The Golden Spoon,” rounds out the principal cast as Dae-hee, Sun-hee’s younger brother.
“The Facade of Love” arrives as part of an expansive Netflix Korea slate for 2026 that leans heavily into adult relationship drama. Among the year’s other titles, Blackpink’s Jisoo leads “Boyfriend on Demand,” a romantic comedy in which she plays a webtoon producer who escapes her exhausting daily routine through a subscription-based virtual dating service. Gong Yoo and Song Hye-kyo reunite for “Tantara,” a period drama tracing Korea’s entertainment industry across the 1960s and ’80s, penned by Noh Hee-gyoung and directed by Lee Yoon-jung. Acclaimed filmmaker Lee Chang-dong returns to directing after eight years with “Possible Love,” his first Netflix collaboration, which follows two married couples whose lives collide – starring Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung, and Cho Yeo-jeong.
“The Facade of Love” will stream exclusively on Netflix.
