Brian Tyree Henry will star in “Running,” a sports drama from “Warrior” and “The Way Back” director Gavin O’Connor. He joins the previously announced star Spike Fearn in the Apple Studios production.
“Running” is based an original story by O’Connor and Bill Dubuque (“Ozark,” “The Accountant”) and follows a homeless high school running prodigy. The film is produced by Makeready along with Nike Films, which knows a thing or two about track.
Henry previously appeared in Apple’s “Causeway” opposite Jennifer Lawrence, earning an Academy Award nomination for his work, as well as the Apple TV series “Dope Thief,” which led to an Emmy Award nomination for outstanding lead actor in a limited series or movie. This fall, Henry will executive produce and lead the cast of Netflix’s adult animated series “Bass X Machina.” In 2027, he will star opposite Julia Roberts in the Warner Bros. film “Panic Carefully.” Henry is probably best known for his work on the FX series “Atlanta.” Other credits include “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse,” “Bullet Train” and Marvel’s “Eternals.”
Apple’s recent films include the Brad Pitt racing drama “F1,” as well as “The Lost Bus,” a rescue drama directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera and “Highest 2 Lowest,” reuniting Spike Lee with Denzel Washington for the fifth time. Upcoming films include “Outcome,” “The Dink,” “Mayday,” “Matchbox the Movie,” “Way of the Warrior Kid” and “Being Heumann.”
