Cappu Films has wrapped a round of international distribution agreements for “Fox Hunt,” the crime thriller starring Tony Leung Chiu-wai, building on momentum from Berlin’s European Film Market.
The sales company has placed the film with Blacktop International for German-speaking territories, Dimeo Films for Poland, YouPlanet for Spain and Portugal, and Global Media Distribution across Latin America and the Caribbean. Cappu Films head of sales Janice Woo is overseeing negotiations, with further talks underway at Hong Kong FilMart.
Directed by Leo Zhang and drawn from real events, “Fox Hunt” features Leung as Dai Yichen, a Shanghai financier who vanishes to Paris after orchestrating a major fraud, only to find himself the target of an international manhunt seven years later. Duan Yihong plays Ye Jun, the economic crime investigator leading a specialist team from the Economic Investigation Bureau of China’s Ministry of Public Security tasked with tracking down fugitives wanted abroad. Olga Kurylenko also stars. The film weaves together action, crime and drama across locations in China, Thailand and France.
Shanghai Film Group, the state-backed studio, produced the picture alongside Shangjia Film, Mokexing Film, Shanghai New Wave Films, Tianjin Maoyan Weiying Media and Championyu Pictures. Leo Zhang and William Qi are the producers.
“The film combines a gripping international crime story with a remarkable cast led by Tony Leung, and we believe it will resonate strongly with thriller audiences in our markets,” said JD Beaufils, founder of Blacktop International.
“With its stellar cast and high-stakes international storyline, we’re delighted to bring the film to Polish audiences through our partnership with Cappu Films,” said Jacek Przybylski of Dimeo Films, citing the film’s true-crime premise as a standout.

Cappu Films is also presenting two forthcoming Jackie Chan projects at FilMart directed by Zhang: action-comedy “Pawfect Agents” and thriller “Retired Cop.”
