TikTok Restores Service in the United States, Thanks Trump Despite His Move to Ban It in 2020 | Donald Trump, Social Media, TikTok | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

TikTok is coming back after going dark.

The company confirmed the news in a statement on Sunday (January 19).

“In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive,” they said.

“It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”

The move comes after Trump vowed to give the app a reprieve hours before on social media, and nearly five years after he initially issued an executive order to effectively ban the app in August of 2020.

TikTok announced plans to file legal action challenging the order later that month. In September, TikTok filed a request for a preliminary injunction to prevent the app being banned by Trump, which was approved. After Trump left office, President Joe Biden continued to pursue the ban on TikTok out of national security concerns.
