The Verdict’ Opens With 17 Million Views on Netflix

Netflix’s “Michael Jackson: The Verdict,” a docuseries that revisits the King of Pop’s 2005 trial, debuted at the top of the TV charts with 17.8 million views in its first five days.

The three-part series premiered on June 3 and features interviews with key people who were inside the courtroom — where Jackson was acquitted of all charges including child molestation — including jurors, eyewitnesses, accusers and defenders. It premiered a couple months after the blockbuster musical biopic “Michael,” which stars the late Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the “Thriller” singer and is endorsed by the Jackson estate.

It sat atop the Netflix television charts for the week of June 1-7, followed by the limited series “The Witness” (13.2 million views) and Tina Fey’s “The Four Seasons” Season 2 (5.7 million views in its second week on the platform).

On the non-English side, the Korean drama “Teach You a Lesson” scored 6.4 million views in its first three days on Netflix. At No. 2 is “My Royal Nemesis” in its fifth week on the chart, and “Berlin and the Lady With an Ermine” in its fourth week.

Topping the English-language film charts is the Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein rom-com “Office Romance,” which debuted with 20.9 million views in its first three days on Netflix. In its first week on the platform, “Creed III” punched up to 7.9 million views and the animated comedy “Swapped” — in its sixth week in the Top 10 — nabbed 7.5 million views.

Leading the non-English film chart are new titles “The Marked Woman” (6.6 million views) and “Maa Behen” (4.4 million).
