Taiwan’s TAICCA Series Mania Asia Co-Pro Pitch: Titles and Talent

Taiwan is doubling down on its international co-production strategy at Series Mania, with state agency TAICCA unveiling four cross-border series at the Asia Co-Pro Pitch as CEO Erica Wang leads the delegation to Lille.

Unveiled at the Series Mania Forum on Wednesday, the slate, drawn from the Serial Bridges Asia workshop and the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF), underscores a pipeline increasingly geared toward globally scalable storytelling, spanning partnerships across Europe and Southeast Asia.

A drill-down on the four series:

“Emperor’s Shit” (Taiwan, Thailand)
From award-winning Thai filmmaker Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke, “Emperor’s Shit” is a dark satirical ensemble set in a Japanese ryokan, where a group of Thai tourists becomes entangled in a murder case unfolding in an onsen. Blending absurdist humor with social critique, the series explores how civility can be weaponized to justify cruelty. Produced by Neverland Entertainment and Wonderhood Studios, the project combines genre elements with LGBTQ+ and family themes aimed at global audiences.

“Ready Player Mum” (Taiwan, U.K.,Singapore)
Billed as the first U.K.–Taiwan co-production, “Ready Player Mum” is produced by former Channel 4 CEO David Abraham and created by showrunner Karl Gan. The story centers on a middle-aged British woman secretly living as a top-tier online gamer, whose digital identity becomes essential after a tragedy in Taiwan. Fusing gaming culture with emotional drama, the series positions itself as a cross-market play with strong commercial upside.

“The Fundamentals” (Taiwan, Philippines)
Directed by Locarno Golden Leopard winner Yeo Siew Hua, “The Fundamentals” is a high-concept thriller set in a typhoon-stricken village cut off from the outside world, where a string of mutilated bodies reveals a deeply rooted belief system. As the investigation unfolds, the narrative pivots between rational inquiry and collective paranoia. Produced by Volos Films, the project blends festival pedigree with elevated genre storytelling.

“Never the Bride” (Taiwan, Philippines)
Developed through TCCF, “Never the Bride” is a premium Filipino workplace dramedy set in the luxury wedding business. Produced by Fire & Ice Media, the series follows a tightly wound planner and her team as they orchestrate elaborate ceremonies while navigating their own personal breakdowns. With a “wedding-of-the-week” structure spanning multiple countries, the project is designed for repeatable format potential and international circulation.
