Super League greatest XIII: The results of YOUR votes with Leeds Rhinos, St Helens, Wigan Warriors and more included

The votes have been counted, the debate is over. You have decided your greatest Super League XIII of all time.

Over six weeks the votes have flooded in as we look to cap off Super League’s 30th birthday by presenting the 13 players who make up what would be the most formidable of outfits to grace the competition.

You have chosen style, flair, pace, power, and plenty of trophy-laden players!

Without further ado, here is the Sky Sports Greatest Super League XIII…

Full-back: Sam Tomkins (40 per cent of the vote)

A player who changed how the position is played, your pick for full-back is Sam Tomkins.

After an era where full-backs were lauded for their defensive exploits, Tomkins burst onto the scene and helped make full-back an extra half-back.

Truly unplayable at times, his highlights reel is one to watch over and over.

Other votes: Kris Radlinski (23 per cent), Paul Wellens (23 per cent), Brent Webb (10 per cent), Brett Hodgson (four per cent)

Wingers: Ryan Hall (36 per cent) and Jason Robinson (29 per cent)

Two greats of the game take the wing spots in Ryan Hall and Jason Robinson.

Hall is Super League’s top try scorer with 264 tries, his power and pace on the edge too much to handle across a stellar 19-year career so far. He is one of just two inclusions who are still playing.

Meanwhile, Robinson is a cross-code legend who helped define the early years of Super League, his sensational try in the 1998 Grand Final going down in folklore.

Other votes: Lesley Vainikolo (24 per cent), Tommy Makinson (six per cent), Pat Richards (five per cent)

Centres: Jamie Lyon (42 per cent) and Keith Senior (36 per cent)

While Jamie Lyon spent only a couple of years at St Helens, the Australia international’s impact left a mark and he is remembered as one of the greatest players to have turned their hand to Super League.

His style and flair for Saints helped define their identity as ‘The Entertainers’ in the mid 2000s and in most of their attacking highlights from that period, Lyon would have had some involvement.

Now, imagine him paired with Keith Senior! A great whose career spanned 15 years in Super League, he was a key member of Leeds Rhinos in that he combined pure ferocity and incredible rugby IQ as they went on to win the Super League Grand Final three times in a row.

A pair of centres any team would snap up!

Other votes: Kallum Watkins (eight per cent), Martin Gleeson (eight per cent), Shontayne Hape (six per cent)

Stand-off: Danny McGuire (48 per cent)

Another Leeds legend takes his place at stand-off. Yes, your greatest ever from Super League to grace this position is Danny McGuire.

McGuire played 19 years in Super League, 17 of them with Leeds, and is regarded as one of the greatest playmakers. And he has the plaudits to show for it too! With eight Super League Grand Final wins, two Challenge Cup wins. three World Club Challenges, and three League Leaders’ Shields to his name, it is no wonder he took such a hefty portion of the vote.

Other votes: Bevan French (23 per cent). Henry Paul (13 per cent), Leon Pryce (eight per cent), Lee Briers (eight per cent)

Scrum-half: Rob Burrow (50 per cent)

It is only fitting that McGuire is partnered by his fellow Leeds stalwart. The late, great Rob Burrow.

The little player who left a gigantic mark, Burrow’s career was 18 years of him defying the odds on 492 occasions for the Rhinos, his nippy style and heart bigger than his stature cementing him as a Super League great.

Of course, he also provided one of the greatest Super League moments ever with his try in the 2011 Grand Final.

Other votes: Sean Long (40 per cent), Robbie Paul (five per cent), Paul Deacon (three per cent), Bobbie Goulding (two per cent)

Props: Jamie Peacock (53 per cent) and Adrian Morley (20 per cent)

Talk about a terrifying prop pairing – your greatest Super League props are Jamie Peacock and Adrian Morley.

They are two players who need no introduction and both left everything on the pitch every time they played.

When they were introduced into a game, you felt it change, as their sheer will and determination, plus hefty carries, helped put their respective sides on the front foot.

More remarkable, they did it over and over for 20 years.

Other votes: James Graham (17 per cent), Stuart Fielden (eight per cent), Luke Thompson (two per cent)

Hooker: James Roby (48 per cent)

The player with the most appearances in the Super League era.

James Roby was a player who, across 20 years and 551 games for St Helens, was consistently at least an eight out of 10 on every single occasion. He was so consistently good, you almost began to not notice how good he was because it was expected.

A player with Six Super League Grand Final wins, eight League Leaders’ Shield victories, four Challenge Cups. and a Man of Steel, he is a fitting pick for the No 9 jersey.

Other votes: Keiron Cunningham (38 per cent), Michael McIlorum (six per cent), James Lowes (six per cent), Mickey Higham (two per cent)

Second Rowers: Gareth Ellis (44 per cent) and Liam Farrell (26 per cent)

A player who spent 17 years of his career across Super League, Gareth Ellis was a fearsome player who was touted for his incredible mindset when on the field, running through brick walls for his team-mates time and time again.

Remembered fondly by every club he has played for in Wakefield Trinity, Leeds Rhinos, and especially Hull FC, he epitomised the word ‘team-mate’.

He is joined by our second player who is still playing, alongside Hall – Wigan Warriors skipper Liam Farrell. Farrell has been at the centre of Wigan’s success for 16 years, giving all for his hometown club.

That effort has led to a trophy-laden career that includes six Super Leagues, five League Leaders’ Shields, four Challenge Cups, two World Club Challenges, and he is still on the hunt for more!

Other votes: Chris Joynt (18 per cent), Ben Westwood (seven per cent), Lee Gilmour (five per cent)

Loose Forward: Kevin Sinfield (36 per cent)

We get to round off our Super League ‘greatest team of all time’ with what, on paper, looked the toughest category to pick and the votes showed that too!

However, at loose forward, we have Leeds legend Kevin Sinfield. A leader on and off the field, Sinfield’s game smarts were second to none and his kicking game could break open a game at any moment.

His 19 years at Leeds saw him morph into one of the most exceptional leaders that helped bring unprecedented success to his side.
