Stacy London and Clinton Kelly, the one-time stars of TLC’s “What Not to Wear,” who reunited for last year’s Amazon Prime Video series “Wear Whatever the F You Want,” are launching a new series that this time tackles on-screen Hollywood fashion: “Why’d They Wear That?”
The new fashion rewatch series comes from content studio Simple Alien and will be distributed as a web series and podcast. London and Kelly created and own the new series — and have full creative control over it, according to Simple Alien founder and executive producer Nick Panagopulos.
“With ‘Why’d They Wear That?’ we’re doubling down on a model we believe is the future of entertainment — creator-owned, premium-quality series built for scale, speed, and shareability across platforms,” Panagopulos said in a statement.
“Why’d They Wear That?” will start production this week in New York; in owning the format, that marks a first for London and Kelly.
According to Simple Alien, the series will produce 12 episodes, and per the series logline, “is a pop-culture, fashion commentary show where Stacy and Clinton break down the on-screen looks that sparked trends, started debates and occasionally made audiences ask, ‘what are they wearing?’ From shoulder pads to power suits and prom dresses to nightgowns, nothing is off limits. Part love letter, part roast, Stacy and Clinton don’t hold back dissecting all the fashion moments that have shaped pop culture.”
The show will discuss looks and wardrobe choices from movies such as “Poltergeist,” “Scarface,” “9 to 5,” “Sixteen Candles,” “Weird Science” and “Love Story.” London and Kelly will rewatch those films and TV shows from bed at the Knickerbocker Hotel, commenting along the way.
Simple Alien was founded by Panagoulos and Marissa Ronca as a creator-driven business that is shot on an economic production model, with multiple episodes filmed in a single day.
Among early series from Simple Alien: “Chewed Up,” a food-centric video series hosted by “The Chew” alums Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and Michael Symon. According to Simple Alien, “Chewed Up” was named a “Spotify Instant Hit” and “Most Talked About Show of 2025” on that platform. The show averaged 100k+ monthly views from regular viewers and partnered with brands including Fresh Direct, Caraway, Trader Joe’s and Frontgate.
“What Not to Wear” originally aired for 10 seasons on TLC, wrapping up its run in 2013. The two hosts had a public falling out following the show, though they reunited in 2023 for a nationwide stage tour dubbed “The Stacy & Clinton Show,” followed by “Wear Whatever the F You Want,” which ran for eight episodes last April.
“‘Why’d They Wear That?’ is the closest thing to the IRL Stacy and Clinton dynamic: unfiltered, uncensored, opinionated,” London and Kelly said in a joint statement. “When we’re together, we spend our time laughing our faces off.”
