Regal Cineworld is rolling out a new AI-powered moviegoing tool, becoming the first major exhibitor to launch a dedicated app within ChatGPT aimed at streamlining film discovery and ticket purchases.
The app, developed in partnership with The Boxoffice Company, allows users to ask conversational prompts — such as what’s playing nearby or showtimes for specific films — and receive real-time results, including movie details, formats and screening options. Users are then directed to Regal’s website to complete ticket purchases.
The move is designed to simplify the path from browsing to buying, integrating showtime discovery directly into a conversational interface. Regal operates 5,386 screens across 394 locations in the U.S., and the company says the tool will help make selecting showtimes, seats and tickets more efficient across its circuit.
“Regal is excited to partner with The Boxoffice Company to introduce the first movie ticketing app on ChatGPT… to improve the moviegoer journey,” said Kelly Dowdy, chief digital and technology officer at Regal Cineworld. “Modern moviegoers are typically early adopters of novel technology, so we are consistently innovating and enhancing our digital services, theaters, premium formats, and moviegoer conveniences to create extraordinary experiences for our guests on every visit.”
Executives at The Boxoffice Company framed the launch as a major step in connecting AI-driven recommendations with real-time commerce. CEO Stan Ruszkowski said the tool is designed to “turn AI conversations into movie tickets,” while Managing Director Marine Suttle described it as “a logical extension of our ‘Boost’ platform, ensuring that every AI-driven recommendation is backed by real-time, accurate data, making the app a first of its kind.”
The ChatGPT-powered experience is now being introduced to Regal moviegoers in the U.S.
