The Bachelor winner Rachael Kirkconnell is opening up about her split from longtime boyfriend Matt James and how she learned about his breakup Instagram post while sitting on an airplane.
Fans had been questioning the validity of the breakup post as the former couple was sharing content from their London vacation just hours earlier, but Rachael‘s new comments seemingly imply they ended their relationship on the trip.
Rachael sat down for an interview with Call Her Daddy‘s Alex Cooper in which she admitted she’s in “total shock” still.

“I just couldn’t believe it, going to the airport,” Rachael said. “I was like, ‘What the hell is happening?’ We’re literally getting ready to take off, and my phone blows up. I’m freaking out. Just got broken up with and now, few hours later, it’s like for the whole world to see.”
Right before the breakup, Rachael says that she and Matt were talking about rings and getting engaged
She said, “When we would talk about things, he always seemed like he was on the same page, privately and publicly. We talked about rings. He told me a few months ago to start saving some things, picking things out. That’s probably one of the saddest things about it.”
Rachael has still been trying to rationalize what happened between her and Matt.
“I never knew if it was because there was something wrong with me or, like, not wrong with me. I keep trying to tell myself that there’s nothing wrong with me.”
Elsewhere, Rachael has confirmed that there was no cheating involved in the breakup and she also denied that she’s still hanging out with Matt.
