Based on the popular video game of the same name, Netflix’s “Assassin’s Creed” is a “high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will,” according to its official logline. “The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”
Previously announced stars include Toby Wallace, Lola Petticrew, Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus and Tanzyn Crawford. Exact character details are being kept under wraps.
The “Assassin’s Creed” series is executive produced by Robert Patino (“DMZ,” “Westworld”) and David Wiener (“Halo,” “Homecoming”), who also serve as showrunners. Other executive producers include Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, Genevieve Jones for Ubisoft Film & Television and Matt O’Toole.
The video game is one of the bestselling in history, with more than 230 million units sold globally since its release in 2007. Now totaling 14 installments, the franchise explores the war between the rival secret orders of the Assassins and the Templars as they use advanced machines to access the genetic memories of Assassins in different periods of the past to track down powerful artifacts called Pieces of Eden.
