Daniil Medvedev suffered an astonishing 6-0 6-0 defeat in 49 minutes to Matteo Berrettini at the Monte-Carlo Masters on Wednesday.
Medvedev won just 17 points as former Wimbledon finalist Berrettini became the first ATP player to win a match without losing a single game against a top 10 player in 10 years.
Wildcard Berrettini was ruthlessly efficient against an out-of-sorts Medvedev, who did not have a single game point on his serve in the match.
It is the first time Medvedev has lost a tour-level match without winning a game and he has now lost 10 sets 6-0 in his career.

“I think it was one of the best performances of my life,” Berrettini said. “I think I missed three shots in the entire match and it is not easy against a tricky player like Daniil. I think the game plan was perfect and my weapons were working.
“I faced two break points in the first game and then after that it felt I was playing better than him. I was not expecting to win zero, zero like that. But I kept my focus as I know one break or two breaks is not enough sometimes, so I kept pushing.”
The last player to achieve a 6-0 6-0 scoreline against a top 10 player was when David Goffin defeat Tomas Berdych at the Rome Masters in 2016.
It’s only the fifth time in the Open Era an ATP player has won 6-0 6-0 against a top 10 player.
“I have been playing for a long time, so I felt it was really important to hold my serve at the start of the second set,” Berrettini added.
“It is a matter of a few points at the start and then when you go up two breaks you are more relaxed and the ball is [flying] out of your racquet.”
