Meta Denies Forcing People to Follow Trump on Instagram as Celebs Say They’re Unable to Unfollow Him | Demi Lovato, Donald Trump, Facebook, Gracie Abrams, Instagram | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

Meta is denying that Facebook and Instagram users were forced to follow accounts for President Trump, Vice President Vance, and First Lady Melania Trump.

After the inauguration, users on Meta’s social media apps noticed that they were following the pages for the new administration without their knowledge. Celebs like Demi Lovato and Gracie Abrams have expressed that they are also unable to press the unfollow button.

Meta is denying that.

“People were not made to automatically follow any of the official Facebook or Instagram accounts for the President, Vice President or First Lady,” Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said in a statement posted to Threads. “Those accounts are managed by the White House so with a new administration, the content on those Pages changes. This is the same procedure we followed during the last presidential transition. It may take some time for follow and unfollow requests to go through as these accounts change hands.”

Meta says that people who were following the @POTUS account during the Biden administration were automatically led to follow the new account for Trump.
