Maury Povich on Connie Chung Marriage, Making Less Money Than Her

The results are in: Maury Povich, you are not the breadwinner.

At least that was the case during the early days of his relationship with wife Connie Chung. The television personality shared a glimpse into the couple’s finances after tying the knot in 1984.

After Adam Friedland jokingly called him a “gold digger” during their Interview magazine conversation, published April 1, Maury quipped, “Absolutely.”

“My wife was making 10 times what I was making when we got married,” he continued, before teasing, “How’s that?”

While Connie had made her name as a correspondent during CBS Evening News before anchoring NBC News at Sunrise and the Saturday edition of NBC Nightly News by 1984, Maury found success with his eponymous talk show in 1991, which ran until 2022.

Maury, 87, credits his best experiences to his wife, emphasizing that he has the best life ever, “only because I married Connie Chung.”

For instance, the couple—parents to son Matthew Jay Povich, 30—has found paradise in the Western United States.
