Trinity Media has boarded Hong Kong and Taiwan distribution rights to “Bluefish,” the Korea-Malaysia-Indonesia co-production featuring Ji Seung-hyun, Cecilia Choi and Yayan Ruhian, ahead of the project’s market debut at Hong Kong FilMart.
Autumn Sun Co. will debut the film’s official poster and first-look footage to buyers at the market. Directed by Lee Sang-hoon and targeting a fall 2026 theatrical release, the project wrapped principal photography ahead of the Hong Kong market.
Trinity Media’s Stephanie Chan, whose company specializes in Hong Kong theatrical marketing, framed the casting as a callback to some of Korean cinema’s most commercially successful cross-cultural pairings. “It’s been a long time since audiences enjoyed a Korean film merging a Chinese actress and Korean leading man, in the tradition of Cecilia Cheung in ‘Failan’ and Tang Wei in ‘Late Autumn,’” she said. “These are memorable movies, and we hope Cecilia Choi’s performance in ‘Bluefish’ is something audiences truly anticipate.”
Ji, known for “Korea-Khitan War” and “Hot Blooded,” leads the cast as a drifter whose violent past catches up with him when he crosses paths with a mute milk delivery girl. Choi, whose credits include “Beyond the Dream” and “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In,” co-stars alongside Indonesian action star Ruhian in a key supporting role. The film was shot on location in Yeongdeok and Busan.
Choi’s broader regional profile strengthens the film’s sales proposition. One of Hong Kong’s most in-demand actresses, she has accumulated a string of Asian co-productions including “Breaking and Re-entering,” “Mudborn” and “The Great Tipsy 1980s,” and will next appear alongside Louis Koo in Wilson Yip’s “The Dream, the Bubble and the Shadow.”
Joanne Goh, CEO of Jazzy Pictures and producer of “Bluefish,” cited Lee’s emotional storytelling as the project’s creative backbone. “His previous works like ‘Pinwheel’ and ‘Family Secrets’ have deeply touched audiences,” Goh said. “His unique ability to capture human emotion is perfect for this cross-border collaboration, and we believe ‘Bluefish’ will resonate across Asia and beyond.”
