Indonesian Horror Finale ‘Danur’ Lands at EST N8 for Global Sales

EST N8, the international finance, production and sales company, has acquired worldwide sales rights to “Danur: The Last Chapter,” the final entry in one of Indonesia’s most successful horror franchises.

Produced by MD Pictures, the film is being shopped to international buyers at Hong Kong FilMart, with an Indonesian theatrical release to follow later this month.

Franchise director Awi Suryadi returns to helm the concluding chapter, which centers on Risa Saraswati. She has a gift for seeing and speaking with ghosts and is once again drawn into danger by the supernatural forces surrounding her. Prilly Latuconsina reprises the role, joined by Zee Asadel, Dito Darmawan and Anya Zen.

This time, the threat hits closer to home: a malevolent spirit targets Risa’s younger sister, forcing her to lean on the ghostly companions she has known since childhood to shield her family from harm.

Built on the bestselling books and personal accounts of real-life author Risa Saraswati, the “Danur” series has grown into one of Indonesia’s most recognizable genre properties, drawing millions of viewers across its run by grounding supernatural horror in local folklore and mythology.

The deal was brokered by Shi and Cathy Ni of EST N8.

“Danur has become one of the defining horror franchises in Indonesia,” said Sophie Shi, head of EST N8. “With ‘Danur: The Last Chapter,’ audiences will experience a powerful and emotional finale that stays true to the chilling supernatural atmosphere that made the series so successful.”

MD Pictures is Indonesia’s first publicly listed film company and one of Southeast Asia’s largest content producers, with a library of more than 200 feature films and 14,000 hours of content. The studio’s 2022 release “KKN: Curse of the Dancing Village” became Indonesia’s highest-grossing horror film ever, surpassing 10 million viewers.

EST N8’s slate includes “Hidden Letters,” directed by Violet Du Feng, which earned a Peabody nomination, as well as “K-Pops!,” the Toronto-selected feature from eight-time Grammy winner Anderson .Paak.
