Savannah Guthrie is set to make her return to NBC’s “Today” this week and the network is expecting big ratings, for the episode as the beloved anchor is welcomed back to Studio 1A in Rockefeller Plaza after a two-month absence due to her mother’s ongoing disappearance.
Guthrie is set to appear on Monday’s “Today” Show broadcast (April 6), with the news announced during the second part of her interview with Hoda Kotb that aired on Friday. NBC has not disclosed the exact capacity of Guthrie’s return or what segments she will be part of, but the longtime TV personality says she welcomes the chance to find some normalcy in her life again.
“I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not,” she told Kotb. “But I can’t not come back, because it’s my family,” she said. “I think it’s part of my purpose right now. I want to smile. And when I do, it will be real. And my joy will be my protest.”
Viewers who want to catch Guthrie’s return to “Today” can tune in by watching the morning show on TV through their local NBC affiliate. Those without cable or who want to stream the “Today” Show online can do so by using a live TV streaming service like DirecTV. Guthrie has been off the air since her mother Nancy was allegedly abducted on Jan. 31. Though a person of interest was identified by the FBI early on in the case, Nancy Guthrie has yet to be found.
While Monday will mark Guthrie’s return to the ‘Today’ set, the anchor has appeared on camera in short clips thanking viewers for their support, while crediting her family and her faith with helping her navigate the difficult situation.
