Ebon Moss-Bachrach Enters Tonys Race for ‘Dog Day Afternoon’

Eligibility rulings for three Broadway productions are now set as the Tony Awards race gets underway.

The administration committee clarified key category placements that could have an effect this year’s contenders.

At its third meeting of the 2025‑26 season, the committee confirmed that “Every Brilliant Thing” starring Daniel Radcliffe and Mariska Hargitay will compete in the best revival of a play category. Its creators, Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe, were also ruled eligible as authors.

In performance categories, Emmy winner Ebon Moss‑Bachrach was deemed eligible for best performance by an actor in a featured role in a play for his role as Sal DaSilva in “Dog Day Afternoon,” positioning the stage and screen actor as a potential awards‑season factor, with his co-star Jon Bernthal set for a leading push.

The committee also reviewed “Giant,” with the other eligibility determinations across productions remaining consistent with their opening‑night credits.

The Tony Awards are presented by the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The 79th annual ceremony will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and hosted by Grammy‑winning artist Pink. The show will air live on the CBS Television Network and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, June 7. Nominations will be announced May 5.
