Donald Trump Fires Pam Bondi as Attorney General

President Donald Trump has fired U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, while praising her as having done “a tremendous job” in cracking down on crime during her nearly 14-month tenure.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote that Bondi will be “transitioning” to a job in the private sector. Todd Blanche, the deputy attorney general, will assume the role of acting U.S. attorney general.

“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year,” Trump wrote. “Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900. We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected Legal Mind, Todd Blanche, will step in to serve as Acting Attorney General. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

Bondi’s exit as attorney general comes as the Justice Department is currently reviewing a major Hollywood deal: Paramount Skydance’s proposed $111 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Last month, the acting head of the DOJ’s antitrust division, Omeed Assefi, said the Paramount-WBD deal will “absolutely not” be on a fast-track for approval due to political reasons. Assefi took over the role after the Justice Department ousted his predecessor, Gail Slater, who reportedly clashed with Bondi.

Bondi was sworn in as the 87th Attorney General of the United States on February 5th, 2025. She is a fourth-generation Floridian from Tampa, Florida who spent more than 18 years as a prosecutor, trying cases ranging from domestic violence to capital murder. In 2010, she ran for Florida Attorney General, becoming the 37th and first female Attorney General in Florida’s history, serving for two consecutive terms from 2011-2019.

As Florida’s Attorney General, Pam Bondi remained unwavering in her commitment to make Florida the safest state to live, work, and raise a family. When Attorney General Bondi took office, Florida was referred to as the pill mill capital of the United States. Of the top 100 oxycodone dispensers in the country, 98 of them were in Florida. In her first legislative session, Attorney General Bondi successfully fought for tough legislation to shut down all 98 of these unscrupulous doctors and clinics. She was then appointed Co-chair of the Substance Abuse Committee for the National Association of Attorneys General and to President Trump’s Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission where she worked alongside other national leaders in areas of prevention, interdiction, and treatment.
