Daniel Brühl, the German-Spanish actor, producer and director whose work in film and TV has spanned both European arthouse projects and major Hollywood tentpoles, has signed with CAA and London-based agency United Agents.
The multi-award winner will next be seen in the lead role of Ruben Östlund’s upcoming “The Entertainment System Is Down,” starring opposite Kirsten Dunst and Keanu Reeves. He is also set to star in “The Boys From Brazil,” the Netflix limited series adapted by Peter Morgan, and later this month begins production on the BBC and MGM+ series “Legacy of Spies” based on the work of John le Carré. Brühl also produces “Legacy of Spies” alongside the Ink Factory and stars opposite Charlie Hunnam and Dan Stevens.
Having first broken out in Wolfgang Becker’s 2003 smash-hit “Good Bye, Lenin!,” for which he won the European Film Award for best actor, Brühl has become one of the most recognizable and in-demand European actors. He earned acclaim for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” and major recognition — including BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations — for playing Niki Lauda in “Rush.”
Other credits include Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Civil War” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “The Alienist” for TNT, Hulu’s “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld” and “The Franchise,” executive produced by Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci.
In addition to acting, Brühl produces through his company Amusement Park Films with producing partner Malte Grunert. The company produced Netflix hit “All Quiet on the Western Front,” directed by Ed Berger, which won four Academy Awards and seven BAFTA Awards.
In September, Brühl will direct “Break,” starring Felix Kammerer and Nicholas Braun. The film follows the life of German tennis champion Gottfried von Cramm, whose rise in the 1930s brought him into conflict with the Nazi regime, and marks Brühl’s second feature as a director following 2021’s comedy-drama “Next Door.”
Brühl continues to be represented in Germany by Martina Jansen at Players Agentur Management; in Spain by Pedro Garay at Garay Talent; and in France by Gonzalve Leclerc at Agence Adequat.
