New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye shaved his head for charity Tuesday, as he continues to increase his philanthropy entering his third NFL season. In a fun twist, his wife Ann Michael provided the initial buzz.
Maye, 23, was a headline guest at the 13th annual “Saving by Shaving” event — hosted by Granite Telecommunications in Quincy, Massachusetts — with proceeds benefiting Boston Children’s Hospital.
“We love kids,” Maye told reporters at the event. “They’re oftentimes the biggest fans of us players, and I think it’s just such a cool experience to be able to shine a positive light and to be there for them and help any way that we can.”
Organizers told reporters that Tuesday’s event raised more than $4 million.

Maye’s appearance comes after he announced the formation of his own charitable organization, the MayeDaye Foundation, which will focus on serving children and families in need in New England and his native North Carolina.
An initial event, a softball game at Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts, is scheduled for May 31.
“I think it’s one of the biggest things in life to have been blessed to be where I’m at today and being able to give back,” he told reporters, while highlighting Ann Michael’s involvement by adding that he’s “looking forward to doing it together, that’s the best part.”
