Ashley Hesseltine, the stand-up comic and co-host fo the “Girls Gotta Eat” podcast, has announced her debut comedy special, “Here Comes the Bride.”
The marriage-themed hour will debut live on YouTube on April 30 at 8 p.m. ET, followed by a release on Amazon Prime Video on May 1 in the U.S.
Hesseltine shot the special at City Winery at Pier 57 in New York City, the venue’s first-ever comedy special. It comes at the end of her “Sex Before Marriage Tour,” which spanned 43 shows across 19 cities.
Hesseltine taped the hour two weeks before her wedding, bringing a sense of urgency to her material, which traces the chaos of dating to the high-stakes step that is marriage. “The result is a special that balances raunchy, high-energy comedy with moments of genuine vulnerability — as much a personal story as it is a stand-up set,” according to a press release. The special even incorporates real footage from Hesseltine’s wedding.
“I’m so excited to finally say ‘I do’ to releasing this special,” Hesseltine said in a statement. “It’s comedy, of course, but it’s also a love story spanning the last three years of my life, from ‘Where the hell is my husband?’ to ‘We’re getting married this month.’ I’ve been talking about the horrors of dating, crazy sex stories, and being single in my standup for years, so this was a hard pivot, but one I loved embracing.”
Since 2018, Hesseltine has co-hosted the raunchy comedy podcast “Girls Gotta Eat” with Rayna Greenberg. The show covers dating, sex and relationships, and the pair have brought the podcast on tour across America. Hesseltine was also an early digital blogger and creator, who launched the viral Instagram accounts @BrosBeingBasic and @FashionDads.
“Here Comes the Bride” is produced by Don’t Tell Comedy and executive produced by WME’s Andrew Russell. Hesseltine is represented by WME, with Russell handling comedy and touring, and Ben Davis representing her podcast and audio ventures.
