Adam Sandler Starring in ‘Time Out,’ Remake of French Thriller

Adam Sandler will star in “Time Out,” a remake of the French psychological drama “L’Emploi Du Temps” for Netflix. Christian Bale had reportedly been circling the project, which will be directed by Scott Cooper.

Sandler has long made Netflix his creative home, releasing broad comedies like “Murder Mystery” and “Happy Gilmore 2,” as well as more artistic entries in his filmography, such as “The Meyerowitz Stories” and last year’s “Jay Kelly” for the streamer.

He will lead an impressive ensemble, which includes Oscar-nominee Willem Dafoe and Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham, as well as Gaby Hoffmann, Steve Zahn and Adam Horovitz.

The original film was directed by Laurent Cantet and Robin Campillo, and follows a man who is fired from his job, but can’t admit it to his wife and family. To conceal his situation, he keeps lying, to the point where he creates an investment scheme and asks friends to contribute.

Cooper recently directed “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere,” a film about the making of Bruce Springsteen’s “Nebraska” that earned respectful reviews, but bombed at the box office. His other credits include “Crazy Heart,” which won an Oscar for Jeff Bridges, as well as “The Pale Blue Eye,” a Gothic mystery that was released by Netflix. Cooper will produce and write the script for “Time Out,” in addition to directing the picture.

Sandler is repped by WME; Dafoe is repped by WME and Circle Management + Production; Zahn is repped by UTA, Principal Entertainment LA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern; Hoffmann is repped by Gersh and OPE Partners; Abraham is repped by Innovative Artists; and Horovitz is repped by WME and Silva Artist Management.
