Alexis Bledel is looking back at her time on The Handmaid’s Tale.
The 43-year-old actress starred as Emily/Ofglen on seasons 1-4 of the Emmy-winning Hulu series before shockingly leaving the show ahead of season 5.
In a new interview, Alexis shared some rare comments about the trauma her character went through.
Keep reading to find out more…“It was deeply upsetting to even imagine Emily going through something like that—being captured, powerless, with no say over her body,” Alexis told The Hollywood Reporter. “I was actually offered the role and when I read the pilot script, I immediately said yes. Somehow, Just Jared Bruce [Miller] just knew I had Ofglen in me.”
Alexis‘ character went through a lot during her time on the show including forced genital mutilation and working in the Colonies, a radioactive wasteland where prisoners are sent to die.
In her last scene on the series in the season 4 finale, Emily and a group of escaped Handmaids murder Commander Fred Waterford (played by Joseph Fiennes).
For her role, Alexis earned an Emmy award.
“I am forever grateful to Just Jared Bruce Miller for writing such truthful and resonant scenes for Emily, and to Hulu, MGM, the cast and crew for their support,” Alexis added.
